DIY escort cards

I am big on do-it-yourselfing for the wedding.  I like doing crafty things, and it saves money.  With my aunt’s help, we are making our wedding invitations ourselves (I’ll blog about that later).  For now, I’m going to show you what we’re doing for our escort cards.

I like assigned tables at a wedding because it eliminates the highschool cafeteria “where do I sit” aspect of things.  In coming up with a design for our escort cards I wanted to 1) use up the scraps of blue cardstock left over from our invitations and 2) use gold accents.  This is what I came up with, step-by-step:

1.  Cut your cardstock into 4″ by 4.25″ rectangles:

2.  Then, using a scoring blade on your paper cutter, score the foldy part:

It will look like this:

3.  Then, cut white (or whatever color you want, really) paper into 3″ by 1.5″ rectangles.

4.  Now, the fun part!  I embossed the cards using a large damask print stamp.  However, the whole stamp was too big for the card, so I decided to only use part of it on each, so each card will look a little different.  Here are the supplies you need to emboss: a heat gun, detail gold embossing powder, a stamp, and an embossing ink pad:

6.  Then, lay your paper out like so so each corner will get a little bit of the stamp.  You can play around with this and do it several different ways:

7.  Then, ink your stamp on the embossing pad, and stamp.  When you’re done, you won’t be able to see much because embossing ink is basically clear:

8.  Then, dump a bunch of embossing powder over the stamped areas:

9.  Shake the excess powder off the stamp and funnel it back into the jar of embossing powder for re-use:

10.  Apply heat to the embossed area using the heat gun:

11.  Voila!  You have just embossed.  I then attached the white card to the blue cardstock with a tape runner.

And here’s the finished product:

Please note: my mother will be handwriting the cards because she has lovely handwriting.  Mine is terrible, as you can see.
